50 Years in Jewelry

Since 1970

Growing up in LA, I started my adolescence in the tumultuous and creative time we all know as “the 60’s”. We came of age young and fast in that era, and I did so through creativity inspired by the times. My first actual piece of jewelry, made at the age of twelve, was an intricately woven piece made from sandalwood beads, and though vintage now, it has withstood the test of time. Moving forward,  at the age of 15 I was offered the opportunity to be part of an apprenticeship type program for hand wrought silversmithing. I jumped on that opportunity, what teenage girl wouldn’t want to bend metal and play with fire for hours every day!

I have taken that early silversmithing knowledge and combined it with other artistic mediums. In my early 20’s, I began working with glass, and ultimately opened a Stained glass business, making large scale custom windows that live today in some southern California cities.  In the early 80’s I began kiln forming glass, and though it was an ancient technique of glass manipulation, there was a reasurragence of this medium that I got into at its infancy.
However since a single digit age, fiber has been one of my mainstays in my creative process. I have found Metal and glass have always been unforgiving mediums due to their inherent rigidness, whereas fibers have always been a soft place for my creativity to land.
In the early 90’s I decided to incorporate the techniques worked in the three mediums. Weaving sterling as if it were silk, infusing metal in heat formed glass and ultimately creating jewelry that reflects a montage of these three very different disciplines.
I have also taught jewelry making, incorporating the disciplines described above in both California and the Pacific Northwest, where today I call home.

I am a true Californian, growing up in LA, and in adulthood I’ve lived on the hills of Ventura, overlooking the Pacific and the channel islands. I lived in the sierras, in a dirt road hamlet on the western shores of Lake Tahoe. I left there for the hustle bustle of California Street in downtown San Francisco, only to end up for a time north of the golden gate in San Rafael. At that time my life was blessed with my only born, an amazing daughter! When she was almost 6 we moved to the southern tip of the puget sound, where I’ve resided for almost 20 years.
